The Department is an autonomous unit within the Yale Graduate School. It adheres to the general requirements of the Graduate School but sets its own requirements concerning course work, examinations and other aspects of study.
No, we do not offer a terminal masters degree.
Yale University provides all of its PhD students with a financial aid package consisting of four years of full tuition, at least four years of stipend support, and comprehensive health care coverage. During the fifth year of the program, students who have completed all of their requirements are eligible for a dissertation fellowship. The department sponsors a weekly colloquium, with invited speakers from other linguistics departments, as well as a weekly series of lunch talks in which students present their research. Yale periodically hosts conferences in a variety of fields of Linguistics. More information about other departmental activities may be found here.
